Description
Zack Mayo, di origine italiana, e perciò povero e scaltro, decide di uscire dal pantano nel quale è vissuto finora. Figlio di un marinaio donnaiolo e ubriacone, è cresciuto in giro per i porti del mondo al contatto con le più umilianti situazioni umane. Ora, per rifarsi una vita, si iscrive al corso per piloti militari di jet. Si scontra subito con l'istruttore che lo perseguita e lo sottopone alle prove peggiori. C'è con lui, tra gli altri colleghi, un amico, Sid, di estrazione borghese ma fragile psicologicamente; infatti, circuito ed ingannato da una donna che aspirava a lui soltanto per sistemarsi, si suicida. Zack invece si innamora di Paula, povera anch'essa, ma sincera ed affettuosa. Superate tutte le difficoltà del corso, malgrado il sadico trattamento cui l'aveva sottoposto il sergente istruttore, riuscirà ad impalmare la sua innamorata.
